Ha*Ash (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈɟʝa ˈash]) is an American Latin pop duo formed in 2002 by sisters Hanna Nicole (born June 25, 1985) and Ashley Grace (born January 27, 1987). The duo's name is a combination of their names.
Combining a mixture of Latin pop, rock, country and singer-songwriter style, the duo is an international success. Their hits include: "Lo Aprendí de Ti", "Perdón, Perdón", "Te Dejo en Libertad", "¿Qué Hago Yo?", "Ex de Verdad", "Sé Que Te Vas", "100 Años", and "Eso No Va a Suceder", among others. The duet released released six albums: Ha*Ash (2003), Mundos Opuestos (2005), Habitación Doble (2008), A Tiempo (2011), Primera Fila: Hecho Realidad (2014), and 30 de Febrero (2017).
Hanna Nicole and Ashley Grace were born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to American parents, Antonio and Mathilda Pérez. They have two siblings and two half-siblings. Their grandfather is Mexican, and their grandmothers were of German and Spanish ancestry. The family had been living in Lake Charles for generations. Because their father worked outside of the United States, they were raised half the year in Mexico City and half in Lake Charles. Hanna and Ashley speak both English and Spanish.
They began performing in church at the ages of 4 and 5 years respectively. When they were 14 and 15, they sang in the music festivals "Railroad Festival" and "The Louisiana Music Cavalcade". The duo's first co-written song was "Odio Amarte" (in English), which was featured on their debut album. Sony Music Latin released their first album "Ha*Ash" which was produced by Áureo Baqueiro.
Although reticent concerning their private lives, they mentioned the divorce of their parents, who separated in early 2005, while the sisters were recording their second album, "Sé Que Te Vas", released as a single for the album Primera Fila: Hecho Realidad in 2016, addressed this topic.
They recorded their self-titled first album Ha*Ash with the Mexican producer Áureo Baqueiro in 2003. The album peaked at #3 in the Mexican album charts and #19 in the US Billboard Latin Pop Albums. In February 2003, received their first gold record for more than 75,000 copies in Mexico. In March 2004, Ha*Ash received a platinum record for sales of 140,000 copies. The album eventually was certified platinum and gold in México.
In April, they released their first single, "Odio Amarte", which was a hit on Mexican radio stations, TV channels and festivals. The second single was "Estés en Donde Estés" which was released in July 2003. The song was used as the main theme of the telenovela “Clap, el lugar de tus sueños” of Televisa, which provided wider dissemination of their music. It peaked at #9 on Billboard Latin Pop chart and #14 on Billboard Hot Latin Tracks. In February 2004, a third single was released: the ballad "Te Quedaste". It peaked at #17 on Billboard Latin Pop chart and #28 on Billboard Hot Latin Tracks. The fourth single from their album debut was "Soy Mujer" which was used in the third version of Big Brother VIP Mexico. In November 2005, a fifth single was released "Si Pruebas una Vez".
After the success of their first album, a special edition of the album was released. It features videos of their first three singles: "Odio Amarte", "Estés en Donde Estés" and "Te Quedaste"; behind the scenes of the videos, karaoke and an interview with Hanna and Ashley about the promotion of their album.
After this, they performed in the Teatro Metropolitan in Mexico City and prepared the release of "Mundos opuestos", their second album in Puerto Rico and USA.
Their second album, Mundos Opuestos was also produced by Áureo Baqueiro. The album peaked at #8 in the Mexican album charts. In 2005, the album was certified as gold in Mexico. On August 24, 2006 the album was certified as platinum in Mexico. The album eventually was certified platinum and gold in México. "Amor a Medias" was the first single and reached number four on the Mexican Chart in April 2006. The song was chosen to promote Sony's products. "Me Entrego a Ti" , the album's second single was released on November 27, 2005, and was written by Colombian artist Soraya. It, too, was successfull. Both singles have videos that reached #1 on many television channels.
The third single, "¿Qué Hago Yo?", was also written by Colombian artist Soraya. and was released on March 2006. The track peaked at number 50 in the Latin Pop Songs charts in the United States. In Mexico, the song peaked at number 1 in the Monitor Latino and 36 in the Mexico Espanol Airplay. This single reached #1 on the Mexican Chart and beat Shakira's Hips Don't Lie. In 2007, was certified Platinum (Format rigtone).
They been successful on TV, as well as on the radio. "Tu Mirada en Mi" was released in the United States and the video has a high rotation on MTV Tr3s, in Mexico. It was released as the album's fourth single on April 2006 and peaked at #50 on Billboard Latin Pop chart.
Early 2008, they recorded their third album, Habitación Doble, in Nashville, Tennessee. This album have a collaboration of the singer Brandi Carlile with the song "Already Home", their first English song recorded by them (like officially). Even when "Already Home" wasn't a sinlge officially, was picked as the iTunes Single of the Week in late September 2008 in USA. Ha*Ash counted with the collaboration of Kany García, Gian Marco and Leonel García. The album was released on August 1, 2008. The album peaked at #6 in the Mexican album charts and #14 in the US Billboard Latin Pop Albums. The album eventually was certified gold in México.
The first single from the album was "No Te Quiero Nada", released on July 8, 2008. It peaked at #6 on Billboard Latin Pop chart. In Mexico, the song peaked at number 1 in the Monitor Latino, and 31 in the Mexico Espanol Airplay. Was won for The Bes of Spain at the Premios Dial and Favorite Song Year at the ASCAP. Was nominated for Favorite Song Year at the Billboard Latin Music Awards. On November 24, 2008 "Lo Que Yo Sé de Ti" was released the second single. The track peaked at number 1 in the Mexico Airplay, Mexico Espanol Airplay and Monitor Latino charts in the Mexico. "Tú y Yo Volvemos al Amor" it was released on February 6, 2009 as the third of the single. The song peaked at number 20 in the Mexico Español Airplay and 31 in the Mexico Airplay.
During 2009, they continued their disc promotion throughout America offering different concerts. Additionally, they worked on film projects such as Disney's Tinker Bell and lent their voices to the IGOR film. They performed for the first time in Spain on July 5 in Barbera del Valles, a small town next to Sabadell, on Dial Day promoted by the municipality of Barbera del Valles and Cadena Dial. The same week they were visiting the Operation Triunfo academy.
Three years passed between the last album and this Ha*Ash production titled A Tiempo. The album peaked at #4 in the Mexican album charts. Just as it is called the fourth item of the two sisters who decided to make it easy to launch a renewed work that could feel his evolution and maturity. Ha*Ash worked with producer Áureo Baqueiro and invited Michele Canova. Ha*Ash, with help from of Leonel García, Natalia Lafourcade and Alejandro Fernández, created one of the best albums of his career and becoming so successful that they released a special edition, a deluxe edition. The album eventually was certified Double Platinum and Gold in México.
Of this material have detached four singles: "Impermeable", reached #1 on iTunes sales in Mexico and #1 in the Mexican radio charts, The song peaked at number 1 in the Mexico Español Airplay and 6 in the Mexico Airplay. The song was certified gold in Mexico. "Te Dejo en Libertad" is chosen as the album second single released on July 11, 2011. It peaked at #29 on Billboard Latin Pop chart and #1 on Mexico Español Airplay, Mexico Airplay and Monitor Latino. Is released to U.S. radio this upcoming August 8th. Song with great success created because of an experience of Ashley.
The third single "Todo No Fue Suficiente" was released as the third single from the album on January 2, 2012. The track peaked at number #2 in the Mexico Español Airplay and #11 in the Mexico Airplay charts in the México.¿De Dónde Sacas Eso?" theme created by Hanna experience, it was released as the fourth single from the album on July 11, 2012. The song was certified gold in Mexico. But being "Te Dejo en Libertad" the most significant theme of the album, because reached number one on the Mexican Chart in 2011 and a large number of views on YouTube. In 2013, it was announced that "Te Dejo en Libertad" had been certified Platinum and Gold.
In 2012 they participated in the Talent program La voz... México as co-coaches of the Beto Cuevas team. In August 20, 2013, Ha*Ash is featured on Leonel García's single "Te Voy a Perder".This collaboration will be included on Leonel García's "Todas Mías" album.
