Dominic Fike is an American singer and rapper from Naples, Florida who signed to Columbia Records in 2018. Fike came to attention of record labels after releasing his debut EP Don't Forget About Me, Demos at age 21 in December 2017, which was recorded while he was on house arrest for battery of a police officer. The EP sparked a bidding war, and he signed with Columbia for a reported $4 million. He later went to jail for violating that house arrest, and came to wider attention in 2018 for the song "3 Nights", which was put on rotation on BBC Radio 1 and reached the top five in Australia, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
His song "3 Nights" from his 2017 EP Don't Forget About Me, Demos was released as a single in 2018, and had its acoustic guitar sound compared to the music of Jack Johnson. The EP has 6 songs in total, the titles being "3 Nights," "She Wants My Money," "Babydoll," "Westcoast Collective," "Socks," and "King of Everything." "3 Nights" was placed on rotation on several radio stations and Spotify playlists, with Rolling Stone saying it "has what it takes to soundtrack phone commercials, with a clap-happy beat and an alliterative, run-on hook".Pitchfork said that, on the track, Fike "sings a bit more about staying out late, seizing the moment, and catching some feelings, eventually half-rapping about receiving some nudes. It's mildly endearing but utterly forgettable."Billboard described Fike as a "genre-meshing" artist in reference to the EP, and later named him a breakout act to watch, calling "3 Nights" "Motown-tinged" as well as "trend-proof and irresistible".
In January 2019, Fike revealed he was working on an album. On April 4, 2019, Brockhampton uploaded a video to their YouTube channel called "This is Dominic Fike", including him and his song, "3 Nights". As of April 2019, multiple collaborations with Brockhampton's Kevin Abstract have been posted, reaching over 1 million views.
On June 7, 2019, he released two singles: "Açaí Bowl" and "Rollerblades", which could be part of Fike's debut album. He followed these with another single, "Phone Numbers", produced by Kenny Beats, on July 4, 2019.
